Margin calculator
See how much of your balance is set aside as margin to open a trade, at the size and leverage you choose.
How is margin calculated?
Required margin = contract size × price × lots ÷ leverage. This amount is held from your balance while the trade is open and released when you close it.
Higher leverage means less margin, but the trade does not get smaller: profit and loss still follow the full size of the position.
A worked example
One lot of EURUSD at 1.1000 is worth 110,000 USD. At 1:100 leverage the margin is 110,000 ÷ 100 = 1,100 USD; at 1:500 it is only 220 USD.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I do not have enough margin?
The trade does not open. If the account value falls a lot while trades are open you receive a margin call, and positions close automatically at the stop-out level.
Is higher leverage always better?
It lowers the margin held but lets you open trades larger than your balance, so it raises the risk. Pick a size that suits your balance first.
Where can I find margin call and stop-out levels?
On the trading conditions page; they depend on the account type.
