Gold and silver in dollars and other currencies
XAUUSD is the price of one ounce of gold in US dollars, XAUEUR in euros and XAUJPY in yen; silver trades the same way as XAGUSD, XAGEUR and more. A metal’s price in another currency is calculated from its dollar price and that currency’s exchange rate.
Contract size differs between metals: one gold lot is 100 ounces and one silver lot is 5,000 ounces — check the table before sizing your trade.
What moves the gold price?
Gold is traditionally seen as a haven in uncertain times, and its price responds to the US dollar, interest rates and inflation data. These are general relationships, not fixed rules: the price can move against them, and sharp volatility can reach a stop loss quickly.
